I saw this caterpillar today. It was 2 1/2 to 3 inches long & about 3/8 inch thick. Does anyone know what type it is? Thanks.

I contacted Univ of Fl Entomology Dept and found this is Fig Sphinx Moth caterpillar(Pachylia ficus). The man said the orange/brown bands indicated it was ready to pupate.

Thank you for the update. I had no idea what it was.
They are very big moths....... That web site says the moth can be up to 5 1/2 inches!

I think this is the next generation of the caterpillar, I saw the moth a month ago, same tree.

Yes, that is a Fig Sphinx Moth. I have never seen one in person, but have seen many photographs of them. A very  moth.........
