While working in the Herndon swamp at St. Sebastian River Preserve SP I spotted this raccoon moving very lethargically ... it's movements were all very excruciatingly slow, a behavior I have never observed in other raccoons. In reviewing the photo a small drop of liquid was observed coming from its nostril. A Veterinarian friend suggested that the raccoon was ill and probably infected with distemper although rabies was not ruled out.

Nice capture, Frank.
Raccoons are notorious for becoming ill with distemper or rabies, so I am always cautious if I see one that appears to be sick or seems to have lost it's natural fear of humans.
