The new guidelines for cookies, prepared by the Privacy Guarantor, will be operational from Monday 10 January, with which the hotel sector will also have to deal. What changes? Let's take stock, starting from the role that cookies play on websites. Why do we install cookies on websites? As reported by Wired , it was the Privacy Guarantor himself who provided an explanation on the role played by cookies: "cookies are small text files that the sites visited by users send to the devices used for consultation (computers, smartphones, tablets , smart TV, etc.) to be stored and then re-transmitted to the same sites on the next visit" . In addition to speeding up access to the site and simplifying its use, cookies owe their popularity to their ability to track user activity , even far from the site where they are enabled.
The activity, defined as fingerprinting , allows for Australia Phone Number better profiling of all surfers, who can then be intercepted by personalized advertisements, created from the acquired data. Italian adaptation to European indications Italy has followed the indications coming from the European Union and has therefore updated the reference legislation. One of the major innovations introduced concerns user consent with respect to the cookie policy . To accept it, it will no longer be sufficient to browse the site by scrolling; acceptance of the cookie policy of each website must take place on an explicit basis. Precisely for this reason, the solution based on a "cookie wall" - an intrusive banner that prevents access to the site if you do not accept the marketing purposes - will no longer be considered compliant.
At the same time, it will no longer be possible for website owners to pre-select cookies that are not necessary for use, such as those for advertising purposes. The Guarantor also thought about how to avoid the problem of so-called "cookie fatigue", i.e. the annoyance generated in the user by having to repeatedly accept the cookie policy. Thus, according to the Guarantor, the banner to grant consent must be shown "if the conditions of the processing significantly change; when it is impossible for the site to know whether a cookie has already been stored on the device; when at least six months have passed since the previous presentation of the banner" . How to be in line with the new provisions? Users must be able to express their consent by clicking on a specific banner . The latter, in also reporting the possibility of not accepting the cookie policy, must be perfectly neutral from a design point of view .
