They may not be in the open like you wanted, but a very nice capture anyway. These chicks are older and will be on their own very soon.
Was the other adult in the area?

Interestingly, I have not seen the male limpkin at all. You are right, these really are juveniles and not chicks. There is apparently another brood on the pond as last week I saw what appeared to be a fuzzy chick with mom. They are very illusive when they get into the firefly though. I could not find them this morning at all.

You need a keen eye, they blend in with the foliage really well.
