Very nice photo's. Haven't been to Pine Island Preserve in quite a while and have never been to Sams Creek. From your photographs it looks to be a productive birding area.

I normally see a roseate spoonbill & all the heron species Frank. I think it is Sams creek. I walk south of the kayak launch area on the maintenence road & turn to the right & follow a path that goes along the edge of the water until it comes to the little bridge between retention pond & the creek. It has to be low enough water to go that way. If you walk around the south end of the retention pond you can enter the hammock and marked trails towards Sams house.
