Thanks Ira. Great set. Aren't these the only birds that impale their catch before eating them? They sure don't look they are such aggressive hunters. I have never seen one score this big a meal either.

I have never seen one score this big a meal either. Tim, they are very aggressive hunters. I usually see them capturing insects like dragonflies and grasshoppers. Then on the other hand I have seen them capture lizards, snakes, small birds, and ounce a mouse. There are two different Shrikes in the United States, the Loggerhead Shrike that is found in the south from Florida to California. There is also the Northern Shrike that lives in Canada and the northern US states. The Northern Shrike also will impale it's food on thorns or barbed wire fences.
