Nice capture!! Photographing a Black Bear in the wild has been on my bucket list for a long time.

Thank you both! Frank, I'm sure you know this is the time of year to try. Bears are more active trying to eat 20,000 calories a day (not a typo) for the winter. Ever try the Blue Springs Pine Island Trail? I love it because I regularly see deer, Barred owls, Florida Scrub jays, and more. Just look down and watch for tracks time to time.
...or the north side of Lako loop in the Seminole State forest. Might be a lot to see on the ground there too, just look out for the MANY banana spider webs at face or waist high spanning the trail.

Thanks for the info on Blue Springs and Seminole Stae Forest. I haven't been to either in many years so this winter might be a good chance to go an roam around some. How is the area around Katies Landing?

Hey Frank. I'm no expert, but bears have been seen there. The only photos I have seen with bears in them from various sites in that location were taken in the spring, though I'm sure there around year round.
I have hiked the trail across the road a few times, but never seem to find tracks there. I'm told from talking to people the road work on 46 has spooked the bears and altered there normal activities. I guess that is why people have been seeing one at Lake Apopka, Blue Springs, Wekiva, and Seminole as they back away from 46. I hike Black Bear Wilderness area regularly, and the last few trips (closed now flooding) I haven't seen any indication of recent bear activity.
