Yesterday, I came upon this very large female Florida Softshell Turtle that was looking for a place to dig a nest and deposit it’s eggs.
The Florida softshell turtle (Apalone ferox) is a species of softshell turtle native to the Southeastern United States. Florida softshells are the largest North American softshells with females reaching almost 24 inches in length; males tend to be half that size, approximately 12 inches.
