I believe these are Scarab Beetles maybe (Digitonthophagus gazella), but I have no idea what the little burs are on their backs.

Thanks Frank. I am getting used to it. I love the lens capability & it is handier to carry around. It takes longer than a DSLR to focus on longer zooms & I find it more difficult to hold steady on long handheld zooms than a DSLR, but going from a 300mm to up to 1365mm makes it much easier to get far away abjects. Toso South is very dry now.

I might have to go take a look at that Canon SX60. My camera has been knocked around a bit and has started to freeze up occasionally. We were out at Toso South 2 days ago on the 25th. It was a beautiful hike and found some more hand ferns off the swamp spur.

3 big cypress trees have fallen at the west end of taylor creek swamp at the mormon fence area. Must have been a wind event oe something, they are pretty much all in a row.
