The Greenfly orchids are very pretty and fairly abundant along most of the Econlockhatchee river. Unfortunately over the past several years we have observed scrape areas on many trees where people have unsuccessfully tried to remove the orchids. Parts of the orchids littered the ground after having broken into pieces during the removal effort. This type of activity has become more evident over the years as Central Florida continues to explode in development and population density. Everyone should take the opportunity, while it still exists, to visit these wild areas to see the beauty and wonders of the natural treasures that still exist, in our State Forests, WMA's, Preserves, Convervation areas, etc., before developers and over population transform these beautiful areas into isolated and imperiled islands of green surrounded in a sea of commercial and residential over development.
