Paw Paw Mound is a shell midden, nearly 11 feet high, possibly built by the Timucua or their ancestors but certainly inhabited by Timucuan Indians as evidenced by the presence St. John's II pottery sherds dating from approximately 900 AD to 1300 AD. The mound is in the Canaveral Marshes Conservation Area can be visited on foot by driving west, from I-95, on SR 50 to the Canaveral Marshes entrance sign on the South side of SR 50. The area is very sensitive to rain fall and river high water levels which can often make walking to the mound difficult. image

I bet it is under water in spots now. I kayaked St Johns at SR 520 & it is pretty big water, 10 ft at 520 bridge. Pretty noticeable current too.
