This photo was taken along a trail at the Bull Creek WMA. Although the inhabitants of this nest are known as Bald Faced Hornets they actually are Yellow Jackets. This nest appears to have been abandoned .... but I wasn't about to physically verify it.

That's very interesting. I was under the impression that Yellow Jackets built their nests underground. I did not know that some types of yellow jackets built nests in trees.
