A message was just posted on our Facebook Group page that said "The Viera Wetlands are closed to car traffic until Dec. 15. The Click Ponds are also closed due to high water.".
Is the Brevard County government officials ever going to properly fund the maintenance of there own roads? It's beginning to look like that is a lost cause.

There seems to be some confusion on the source of this information. The person reporting the closure said that a notice had been posted at the wetlands announcing that the Viera Wetlands would be closed to vehicle traffic until December 15th. However, Harry Behret, the wetlands volunteer who checks the roads and closes the wetlands to vehicle traffic if it is too wet was not notified of the closure.
Harry Behret will be obtaining additional information and will report back his findings to us.
UPDATE: Harry Behret has confirmed that the Viera Wetlands has been closed to vehicle Traffic "due to recent rains".
The report that the closure is till December 15th was in error.

I drove down to St. Augustine from VA and the Viera Wetlands were a high priority on my trip agenda. Does anyone know if the wetlands are currently open? I was hoping to drive down tomorrow.

The Viera Wetlands are indeed now OPEN, unless we get some hard rains. Come on down and enjoy the wetlands...... At various times, site conditions may require that the wetland's berms be closed to vehicles. The berms are normally open to foot traffic and non-motorized vehicles, except in the case of a serious safety concern. Visitors may wish to call road condition hotline to check on berm conditions before their trip. Road Condition Hotline - (321) 255-4488
