Male & Female Boat-tailed Grackle

The Boat-tailed Grackle is sexually dimorphic (Sexual dimorphism is the condition where the two sexes of the same species exhibit different characteristics beyond the differences in their sexual organs). and it is a large blackbird with a very long, keeled tail. Northern birds have pale eyes, while Florida and Gulf Coast birds have dark eyes.

Males are much larger than females, and are entirely blackish, with a purple gloss to the head and greenish gloss to the body.

Females are smaller than males, and are rusty-brownish in color with darker wings. They have a dark line through each eye.

The Boat-tailed Grackle are very common birds and because of the male's bark color makes it hard to expose properly when photographing them.

But, I like a challenge.....
